One Technology Platform.
Four Solutions.
DistanSea’s product family applies its selective ammonia-removal technology to different levels of operational complexity.
From a simple ammonia-treatment module to an integrated water-quality platform, each product is designed to provide the level of control required by the customer’s application.

ART™
Ammonia Removal Treatment
ART is DistanSea’s core ammonia-removal product for saline and brackish aquatic systems.
It provides a practical way to control ammonia accumulation without requiring customers to redesign their entire transport or holding system.
What It Is
ART consists of DistanSea’s proprietary ZnHCF composite beads, packaged in treatment modules designed for contact with the system water.
The quantity and configuration of ART media are adapted to the customer’s operating profile, including:
-
Species
-
Biomass
-
Water volume
-
Temperature
-
Required operating duration
-
Target ammonia concentration
How It Works
As water reaches the ART beads, ammonium ions are selectively captured by the active material. The process continues throughout the operating cycle, slowing the accumulation of TAN in the water.
The adsorption process is passive and does not depend on bacterial establishment or biological-filter maturation.
At the end of the defined cycle, the media is removed for regeneration or exchanged according to the agreed service model.
Customer Value
ART is designed to help customers:
-
Extend safe transport or holding periods
-
Increase biomass within an existing water volume
-
Reduce the frequency of water replacement
-
Create a wider water-quality safety margin
-
Reduce reliance on single-use ammonia adsorbents
-
Improve operational consistency
-
Support better animal vitality and recovery
Suitable Applications
-
Live seafood transport
-
Fingerling transport
-
Seafood holding facilities
-
Live display and supermarket aquarium systems
-
Temporary or seasonal holding operations

ART-pH™
Combined Ammonia and pH Management
ART-pH expands the ART platform by combining selective ammonia removal with passive pH support.
It is intended for systems in which ammonia accumulation and pH drift must be addressed together.
What It Is
ART-pH combines DistanSea’s ammonia-removal beads with an additional treatment component configured to help maintain the required pH range.
The product is adapted to the water chemistry, species, biomass and expected operating duration of the application.
How It Works
The ART component captures ammonium ions from the water.
At the same time, the pH-management component helps counteract predictable changes in water chemistry that occur during transport or holding. Together, the two mechanisms provide a more stable operating environment than ammonia control alone.
The system is designed to reduce the need for frequent manual intervention or repeated chemical adjustment during operation.
Customer Value
ART-pH is designed to help customers:
-
Control two connected water-quality risks
-
Maintain more stable conditions during transport or holding
-
Reduce manual pH correction
-
Lower the risk associated with sudden pH changes
-
Improve operational predictability
-
Create a broader safety margin for live animals
-
Simplify water-treatment procedures
Suitable Applications
-
Closed and semi-closed transport tanks
-
High-biomass shipments
-
Operations without continuous technical supervision

Regen-ART
Regeneration and Quality-Control Platform
Regen-ART restores exhausted ART media so that it can be returned to operation.
It is the element that transforms ART from a disposable treatment material into a reusable water-treatment platform.
What It Is
Regen-ART is DistanSea’s dedicated regeneration system for removing captured ammonium from used ART beads and restoring their adsorption capacity.
Depending on the customer, location and operating volume, regeneration may be provided through:
-
A DistanSea-managed regeneration service
-
A regional regeneration facility
-
A dedicated onsite Regen-ART configuration
How It Works
Used ART media is transferred into the Regen-ART process.
A solution passes through the beads and reverses the ion exchange. The solution replaces the captured ammonium within the ZnHCF structure, releasing the ammonium into a controlled regeneration stream.
The beads are subsequently rinsed and prepared for their next operating cycle. Appropriate quality-control procedures are used to confirm that regenerated media meets the required operating specifications before reuse.
Customer Value
Regen-ART is designed to provide:
-
Reusable treatment media
-
Lower dependence on disposable adsorbents
-
Predictable media-management cycles
-
Centralized quality control
-
Reduced material waste
-
Improved lifecycle economics
-
A circular service model
For customers, the result is straightforward: the complex regeneration chemistry is handled through a defined operational process rather than becoming an additional burden on day-to-day staff.
Suitable Applications
-
Closed and semi-closed transport tanks
-
High-biomass shipments
-
Operations without continuous technical supervision

ART-X
Integrated Water-Quality Management
ART-X is DistanSea’s future integrated platform for prolonged, high-density live aquatic transport.
While ART focuses specifically on ammonia, ART-X is being developed to manage the broader set of water-quality challenges that emerge during demanding transport operations.
What It Is
ART-X is planned as a modular water-treatment platform combining multiple control functions, potentially including:
-
Ammonia removal
-
pH regulation
-
Oxygen management
-
Carbon dioxide removal
-
Turbidity and suspended-solids control
-
Water circulation
-
Monitoring and control
The final configuration will be adapted to the transported species, route, container and customer requirements.

How It Works
ART-X treats the transport water continuously as it circulates through the system.
Each treatment stage addresses a different limiting factor. Together, the components are designed to maintain the water within a predetermined operating envelope during longer or more intensive transports.
The underlying integrated approach has been demonstrated in research involving a 96-hour juvenile seabream transport simulation at approximately 65 kg/m³.
Customer Value
ART-X is being developed to enable:
-
Longer transport routes
-
Higher transport densities
-
Fewer water changes
-
Reduced dependence on intermediate holding points
-
More direct supply-chain routes
-
Greater visibility into water conditions
-
Lower operational risk during extended transport
-
New commercial possibilities for live aquatic logistics
Development Status
ART-X is currently under development and is not yet commercially available.
DistanSea is open to working with selected design partners, transport companies and seafood operators to define future requirements and evaluate relevant pilot opportunities.
